This thesis presents Safe Drive Africa, a completed PhD research programme on reducing unsafe driving in Nigeria through culturally grounded, AI-enabled mobile feedback. The work combines smartphone telematics, machine learning, natural language generation, and behaviour-change theory into an integrated intervention evaluated with 90 real drivers across multiple Nigerian cities. The study demonstrated statistically significant improvements in driving behaviour and establishes a replicable, low-cost model for road-safety interventions in low- and middle-income countries.
